Sin and Vengeance coming to the Big screen
Los Angeles, CA – February 12, 2008 --- 22 West Books and LR Productions announced today an agreement to option film rights to CJ West's 2005 novel Sin and Vengeance. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Award-winning journalist and screenwriter Marla Cukor, owner of the East Coast-based LR Productions Inc, will spearhead production of the film via her production company and LA-based management team. "I fell in love with the action, suspense and plot twists in the story," says Cukor. "I have no doubt this story will make a seamless transition to a feature film." Mr. West has been retained to consult on the screenplay in an advisory capacity.
"I'm excited to see the story take this step toward the big screen," West says adding that since he began visiting book groups to promote the book, "Someone at every meeting suggests making the book into a movie and invariably Johnny Depp's name comes up connected to Randy Black." Mr. West agrees that Randy Black's insidious nature and unpredictable antics would be well portrayed by Mr. Depp.
Sin and Vengeance was released by 22 West Books in October 2005. It follows a fictitious family of winemakers based in an operating winery in Westport, Massachusetts. The novel includes two null ciphers hidden within the text. 22 West Books offers a cash prize to the first person to decode them both. In two and a half years only one person has decoded the first message. The second remains unsolved. Mr. West and Ms. Cukor intend to include contest clues in the finished film.
